I would refrain from that unless it's a reputable provider. Even then I would think twice if I valued the domain name as such. And remember, there is no such thing as "free" however tempting it may sound.

nothing is ever free. Even if they said they'll give it to you for free, you'll have to pay for other things. Most of the time your domain name would come in a package, so the only consolation is you're paying for the package which comes with a free domain name. Marketing tactics. lol

Most co.cc domains are free but there is no benefit of registering such names. A domain serves as your brand and you can't build any credibility with a free domain. I will strongly recommend to register your own domain with popular extensions.
