Vbulletin is able to use random questions which are better solution than captcha. However, some people register manually first and then use robots to send spam. It is more difficult to catch them.

Yes,I agree with you!You did forget to add that Ban are for a lifetime! If a member is caught spamming there is NOT any second chances and the member will be banned for life.

You can't change them all at once. Members should edit their own preferences. If you did edit them the way you want, they probably would change them back as soon as they noticed what you did.
